What is Vlogging (and how to get started)

Vlogging is short for video blogging. It is the practice of attaching video to RSS and Atom enclosures.

Joshua Paul presents a good introductory article on the subject that covers everything you need to get started as it covers the creation, posting and syndication of a video, informing iTunes, subscribing to a feed as well as feeding a feed. The article is Mac-centric but, as with every O'Reilly digital media related article, you can get some good info even if you're on another OS.

The only thing that's a bit off in this article is the same screenshot of (I suppose) the author's face that's used a few times. It shows a bit of a scary expression. It doesn't look that bad in small size like you see on the left here, but the large version speaks a 1000 words :)

When it comes to additional resources there's a few I would recommend. If you want a step-by-step guide to setting up a videoblog for free than check out Freevlog. For general information and articles head over to Videoblogging, and in case you don't feel like producing your own vlog you can still give the voyeur inside you a present by watching other people's material by visiting Vlogdir, the videoblog directory, or Vimeo.

Just be careful where you record your clips, a vlogger was forced to resign from The Metropolitan Museum recently for having 4 short video clips of himself at work.
