DPI, PPI, LPI... Feeling lost among these terms?

Bob Johnson posted a simple yet good explanation of DPI. It certainly is one of the first things people notice and ask about when they get a digital camera and start doing some basic stuff in Photoshop.

Here's the intro that shows you what this is all about: "When you open image files from your digital camera, are they 240dpi, or are they 300dpi? Or perhaps only 72dpi? If you open them in a different program, does the resolution change? This can happen, but that doesn't mean that anything is wrong. After all, resolution is just a number. And it can be changed."

Moving onto PPI, Rick Matthews has a brief article entitled Effect of PPI or DPI setting on image size that will give people new to the subject some insight. Also worth noting is the The Mad, Mad World of Pixels Per Inch (PPI) by Andrew Starling.

Jacci Howard Bear explains LPI with Measuring Resolution in Desktop Publishing, the article contains links to several resources to get more information.
